Let it snow

Wow what an exciting time we had on the 15 and 16 of August with the snow.  I was so impressed with the writing that we completed after the snow.  Please make sure you come and read our work.

Here is a photo of Sarah making snow angels in the snow at home.
Thanks Sonya for emailing me the photo

VISITORS TO NETHERBY SCHOOL

Last Thursday we had a very busy day at school with two lots of visitors.

First thing in the morning we had Tracy and Koru the Kiwi come and visit us in regards to Swim Safe New Zealand.  Tracy talked to us about where we need to be safe, and Koru danced for us.  At the end of their visit we all got Tattoos.  They are so cool, and it seems that they last really well too.
Mr Leverton was all presented on behalf of the school a New Zealand Swim Safe Certificate.

Please come and see our Koru the Kiwi Stories which are hanging in Room 3.

Our second batch of visitors arrived at 11 am and we held a powhiri for them on the court.
They were a group of 15 year olds from Japan, who had come to New Zealand to learn about our culture, from their sister school which is Ashburton College.

They sang their school song for us and performed a dance for us.

After the powhiri had finished they came into each of the classes.  They taught us different parts of their culture.  In one room they drank green tea, in other rooms they did origami, calligraphy and in Room 3 we were taught a game that it very similar to badminton.  The funny thing about the game is that if you lose you get your face painted with a silly shape.  We all got to play the game and it was lots of fun.

Welcome to Term 3

Kia ora koutou, Bula, Namaste, Talofa and all the rest that I might have forgotten.

The topic this term is BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!
This is in line with the Rugby World Cup.
The country that we are studying for this is Fiji.
We will be looking at some of their cooking, language, art and stories.  We will also be looking at their culture and comparing it with the European and Maori Cultures.

We are going to be learning about where the countries come from and so it is time for you to dust off that old atlas.....
